Technical Title: “Use of Probiotics as a Vehicle for the Liberation of Cytokines and Antigens Against Viral and Bacterial Pathogens”
Conventional Title: Use of Probiotics for the Prevention of Viral and Bacterial Diseases in Aquacultural Species.
- Director: Dr. Mario Tello
General Objective (Technical Description): Generating food additives that can stimulate the immune system at an intestinal level.
Description: ICTIO Biotechnologies has successfully developed alternatives to the traditional systems used to protect fish, using probiotic bacteria that can stimulate their immune or boost their defense system by blocking the pathogens’ (viruses and bacteria) mechanisms that produce disease.
Their massive use will lead to a significantly lower use of antibiotics, resulting in better environmental care and a considerable cost reduction.
The product is administered via feeding at any stage of the fish’s development in either fresh or salt water.
Status: The technological development of the product is complete with the patent pending. It’s expected to enter the market by June 2019.
Project Benefits: Better production and improved well-being. A reduction of both the cost and the amount of antibiotics, replacing them with a sustainable biotechnological environment-friendly product.
