The challenge for the national aquaculture is to reach the highest results in the world in terms of sustainability and efficiency in the near future. ICTIO BIOTECHNOLOGIES was created in search of technologies that would improve the competitivity of the Chilean salmon industry and reduce those losses caused by sanitary problems that national companies face regularly.

ICTIO Biotechnologies focuses its efforts on three different lines: diagnosis, prevention and treatment of contagious diseases. This strategy provides a wholesome and unique vision for the development of tools and services that can be implemented in the market.

So far, available strategies for the control of bacterial and viral diseases in salmon haven’t been effective enough to solve the sanitary issues of the Chilean salmon industry. For example, the overuse of antibiotics has led to environmental and commercial consequences that reduce the competitivity of the national salmon industry in the context of the world market.

Facing this challenge, ICTIO Biotechnologies has implemented a series of research programs and products and services development programs, seeking to supply new preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic tools to the market for the control of diseases in salmon. The work started in 2014 and has already achieved results that could significantly change the competitivity level of the Chilean salmon industry.
